The first trimester of the pregnancy lasts up to 12 weeks. During this time your hormones will begin to change and when you will start to notice the more common symptoms of being pregnant. This means no more periods for 9 months and your breasts will start to grow and become tender.

Most women will tell you that they will experience nausea and vomiting due to smells and the foods that they eat. Don’t think that it only happens during the morning though because it can hit you at anytime of the day. To avoid getting sick try to eat smaller meals that are not spicy and have foods that you can enjoy.

Remember that you will need to start taking your prenatal vitamins. These vitamins will help your babies body to grow and develop by providing them with the nutrients that they need.

During the first trimester your baby will grow quickly. Many of their organs will be formed by the ninth week. The placenta will also be fully formed. This is used to pass the nutrients to your baby and the waste products from your baby will be returned to the circulation and removed.

About halfway through the first trimester you will also be able to learn if it is a boy or girl. Your OBGYN will perform an ultrasound to tell you what you are having and you will be able to hear the heartbeat for the first time.
